A how-to demonstration of digital tools that students can use to support the writing process. Help students spend more time on the higher levels of writing--making their writing say what they really want--by using tools to scaffold and expedite the writing process.

The Student Process
- Find supporting article in Newsela.
- Choose alternate article or lexile level if needed.
- Use the Read Aloud option in Newsela for the first reading.
- Re-read yourself or one section at a time using the Read Aloud option.
- Highlight or list keywords and phrases within the text.
- Transfer your list of keywords and phrases into a Google Document (if needed).
- Organize the keywords if desired.
- Use the keywords as talking points to retell critical information from the text.
- Use your fingers or your voice to type (Tools→ Voice Typing)
- Play back writing using Read Aloud Extension to hear your writing.
- Find words if needed using Ctrl+F when revising.
- Isolate sentences by highlighting to play back certain parts for revising.
- Repeat any processes until you are satisfied with your writing.
These supports and strategies will support all students but will be especially helpful for students with disabilities and multi-lingual learners.
